Summary
Proposes a 3-month gas tax holiday if average gas prices reach $5 per gallon.
Issue
Proposes a temporary three-month gas tax holiday that suspends state motor fuel and alternative fuel taxes if statewide average gasoline prices reach $5.00 per gallon.
Requires fuel retailers and suppliers to pass the tax savings directly down to consumers.
HB 6147 and HB 6146 function as a tie-bar. Neither bill can become law unless both are passed.
HB 6146 secures the replacement funding. It amends the Management and Budget Act to legally authorize the state to pull money from the Budget Stabilization Fund to offset the lost transportation revenue.
Notes
Pending Committee action. Must be passed with HB 6146.
