Summary

Expands the state's criminal trespass law by modernizing the definition of protected key facilities to explicitly include modern rail yards and international freight tunnels, increasing legal security against unauthorized entry.

n

Issue

Amends section 552c of the Michigan Penal Code to strengthen infrastructure protections by broadening what qualifies as a "key facility". Updates narrow, outdated legal definitions to accurately cover the vast scale of modern railroad yards and explicitly adds critical international freight corridorssuch as the rail tunnels in Detroit and Port Huron. Under this bill, intentionally entering these enclosed and clearly signed properties without authorization constitutes a criminal trespass violation, granting law enforcement enhanced capabilities to secure essential transit nodes while preserving standard protections for lawful protest.
