Requires entry-level truck drivers to spend at least 15 hours training behind the wheel to be eligible for a commercial driver license.

This bill requires the Department of Motor Vehicles to, no later than June 5, 2020, adopt regulations related to entry-level driver training requirements for drivers of commercial motor vehicles in compliance with the requirements of Parts 380, 383, and 384 of Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations. The department will require the course of instruction for entry-level drivers to require an applicant for a class A or B commercial driver’s license to complete a minimum of 15 hours of behind-the-wheel training, at least 10 hours of which shall be on a public road. For the purpose of meeting this requirement, every 50 minutes of driving time is deemed to be an hour of training.
